Holy Week in Spain is celebrated with the outing of professions organized by brotherhoods. The manifestations of faith are influenced by tradition, which in turn is linked to the customs of each town, it coincides with the last week of Lent between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. Easter in Cieza is more than 600 years old and is the most tourist event in the Murcian town and was declared of tourist interest in 1993 and since 2011 it has been declared of national tourist interest. It usually falls in March and April. Examples of brotherhoods: La Samaritana, Cristo del perdón and San Juan etc. The music is related to the Saints. There are people who sing arrows to thrones. Some typical foods are the pipirrana, migas, stew and sweet paparajotes and torrijas.

Tortas Fritas

These Cakes of Reventón de Cieza are very fluffy donuts made with flour, water, yeast and salt, they are fried in plenty of oil and then coated in sugar, accompanied by a cup of hot chocolate to dunk them.

Ingredients:

-500 gr of flour

-375 g of water

-25 gr of fresh yeast

-Virgin or extra virgin olive oil for frying

-Sugar

-Hot chocolate

Recipe:

We put all the flour in a large bowl with a pinch of salt. We put aside a little water and heat it in the microwave, dissolve the yeast and add it to the bowl along with the rest of the water. We mix everything little by little.

Until it is integrated, it is a very sticky dough, as you can see. Cover with a cloth and let it rest for a couple of hours, this is how the dough was after this time.

We wet our hands in oil or water, this is essential because if you do not do it, the dough will stick, we take small portions, dip a finger in the centre and make a roquilla, we leave it in the oil, which must be at temperature half. I have used extra virgin olive oil, of the picual variety, the best for frying.

As it is a very liquid dough, it will immediately tend to close in the pan, the trick is that we put the stick of a wooden spoon and move it in circles, with this we get the donut to form, it immediately forms, it seems a little complicated, but I did it and while I was taking the photos ...

We let them finish being done, I was doing four by four, Until golden on both sides.

We take them out and leave them on a kitchen paper.

We bathe in sugar.
